Chapter 42 – SAFETY SENSE: When Heat Responds to the Individual

Heat is often controlled through fixed temperatures, power levels, or time settings. Yet people do not respond in the same way. Body type, starting temperature, posture, distance, surroundings, and personal perception all influence how a heat stimulus is received. SAFETY SENSE therefore focuses not only on the selected output, but on the measurable response of the individual.


The limitation of static heat systems

A conventional system delivers a preset level of power. It usually cannot determine whether that level is comfortable, insufficient, or already too intense for the person using it. The technical setting remains unchanged even though back temperature continues to develop throughout the session.

This creates an important difference between selected heat and heat actually received.


From output to feedback

SAFETY SENSE follows the principle of a closed control loop. Non-contact sensors measure back temperature in two areas. The readings are evaluated continuously and provide feedback to the control system.

  • Infrared heat is delivered.
  • The response at the back is measured without contact.
  • The control logic evaluates the change over time.
  • Infrared output is adjusted within the defined system limits.

The relevant information is not a single value, but the continuous interaction between measurement, evaluation, and controlled output.


Why two measuring areas matter

The back does not heat evenly in every situation. Posture, distance, clothing, and individual heat distribution can create different responses in different areas. Measuring in the upper and lower thirds therefore provides a more differentiated view than one central reading.

The sensors are not adhesive patches or skin-contact probes. They measure back temperature from the intended application position and can continue to do so throughout the session.


Safety is a process

Safety in a heat application does not result from one fixed threshold alone. It depends on the combination of construction, distance, sensors, control logic, time, and responsible use.

SAFETY SENSE does not constitute a promise of medical effect. It is a technical approach that allows heat output to respond to measurable changes. The objective is traceable, individualized, and safety-oriented heat regulation within the intended use of the system.


Automatic adjustment and human perception

With a static system, users have to respond themselves by reducing output, changing position, or ending the session. A sensor-controlled system can recognize changes and adjust heat output automatically.

This does not replace personal perception. Discomfort, unusual reactions, or uncertainty remain reasons to stop a session and, where appropriate, seek professional advice. Technology supports the individual; it does not remove personal responsibility.


Connection with ONE-CONTROL

SAFETY SENSE provides feedback from the heat application. ONE-CONTROL forms the browser-based operating and control layer. Depending on the product and configuration, it can display or manage session status, back temperature, conditioning phase, programs, and other enabled functions.

Sensors without control remain observation. Control without feedback remains assumption. Their integration creates an adaptive closed-loop process.
